Kamgawa: Neon Dynasty - Let's open a Collector Booster Box

WOTC

Magic Untapped cracks open a Collector Booster Box of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty.

Can it be worth it to open a Collector Booster Box of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty?

Magic Untapped chose to buy one and see if it's possible.

The Collector Booster Box was purchased for $199 from Card Shop Live, an online retailer that ships out of Henderson, Nevada.  With twelve packs in the box, that works out to being approximately $16.58 per pack.

Here's some of what we found:

  • The value had in each pack can swing wildly, ranging from only a couple of bucks worth of cards to cracking a pack containing one card that pays for the pack a few times over.  Of the 12 packs in the box, a quarter or more of them was of the latter.
  • A number of the packs had duplicate cards within them.  For example, in one pack we opened the card Tribute to Horobi (a 16¢ rare according to TCGPlayer), only for the very next card to be the showcase version of Tribute to Horobi (a 32¢ variant of the card).  While the issue only occurred once with a rare card, it did happen multiple times throughout the box.
  • The foils cards cracked in these collectors booster packs don't seem to suffer from the "pringling" problem.  At least, no evidence of it after two days out in the open.
