The upcoming Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes Universes Beyond might show up at retailers later than expected.
According to word from Wizards of the Coast, the set is facing production and shipping issues. Some products might arrive after the set's prerelease events on June 19, while others could arrive sometime after the set's tabletop release on June 26. The company says these delays will vary by region.
News of the product delays are drawing ire from those at local game stores -- especially those those who are concerned that these delays won't affect big box stores such as Amazon and Walmart.
"This should be proof Wizards and Hasbro can't handle the amount of product they are pushing out," comments Wil Goodrich of Red Dragon Gaming in Portland, IN. "Delay the release of products to these other stores until everything can be released in a timely manner.
Alexander Wolf of Wolf Den Gaming in Boerne, TX, agrees, stating: "I echo these sentiments. Delays may be inevitable however pushing what product out to mass market is a real slap in the face to us that promote the game and bring in new players."
For North America, bundles, Commander decks, and Jumpstart boosters will be delayed. Furthermore, Collector's Edition Commander decks are not expected to arrive at retailers until after the set's release. Welcome Decks will also be delayed with available quantities being allocated to those stores that had previously scheduled Avenger's Academy events getting their allotments first. All other products for North America are on schedule.
The APAC, EMEA, Latin America, and Japan regions will all see delays in the Collector's Edition Commander decks. EMEA will also see delays in English-language Commander Decks and select French-, German-, Italian-, and Spanish-language Commander decks, and select Italian- and Spanish-language Beginner Boxes. Scene Boxes and Welcomes Decks will also be delayed. Latin America will see delays with Jumpstart Boosters, Bundles, and Commander decks.
Magic players are encouraged to contact their LGS for their stores' expectations related to these delays.
