Magic Untapped cracks open a couple of Fifth Edition booster packs.
Magic: The Gathering's Fifth Edition, essentially the game's core set for 1997, was the largest set ever assembled at its time. Clocking in at a whopping 449 cards, it would remain the game's largest single set for quite a long time. It wasn't until 2019 did its size get surpassed by Wizards of the Coast releasing the Mystery Boosters set.
Despite being a core set when core sets were considered anything but powerful, Fifth Edition actually contains an assortment of cards that were either powerful at the time or have become staples over the years since the set's release. Topping the list (at time of filming) is Sylvan Library at $55 with Mana Vault listed as a close second at slightly more than $47. Necropotence is also in this set and clocks in at right around $25 along with City of Brass and Winds of Change, which are each worth $15. The set also contains the "Tron" lands (Urza's Mine, Urza's Power Plant, and Urza's Tower), which are valued at just over $2 apiece despite being slotted in as commons.
Magic Untapped spent about $20.00 ($9.99 per pack) on these two Fifth Edition booster packs, which were purchased at Big Brother Comics in Sacramento, California.
