Report: Magic: The Gathering Film In The Works

Magic: The Gathering major motion picture is in the works that will feature a shared universe with its upcoming television series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro is teaming up with Legendary Entertainment for this project.

“We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved I.P., and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering,” says Mary Parent, Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production.

Legendary Entertainment has experience in turning known brands into films and television shows.  Some, such as the Christopher Nolen-directed Batman movies and Dune parts 1 & 2 have been extremely well received.  The company also has other well-known I.P. motion pictures on the horizon including A Minecraft Movie (2025), Street Fighter (2026), and My Hero Academia (TBD).

Magic: The Gathering has inspired decades of epic world-building and creative storytelling," states Zev Foreman, Hasbro's head of film.  "It is a perfect match for Legendary’s diversified approach to marquee IP, and we are excited to work together to build a whole new Magic: The Gathering universe.”

In addition to the work Legendary will be doing with Magic: The Gathering, Netflix is also working on an animated television program for its streaming service featuring Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard) as its showrunner.

There is currently no release information available for either of Legendary's Magic: The Gathering projects nor is there one for the Netflix adaptation.
