Magic: THe Gathering's next errata may be related to a creature type found in Bloomburrow.
As seen in the story of Bloomborrow, Weaselfolk are one of two new creature types to be introduced, along with skunkfolk. Originally, when they were planning on 15 creatures, weasels had been one of the 15 main ones. However, when it was cutback to 10, weasels were left out and relegated to cameo status. The red-black type instead went to lizards, as they wanted more non-mammalian diversity. But, as one of the main villains was a weasel, they at least got to keep the cameo.
Mark Rosewater has since said that weasels may be one of the main ones in the return to Bloomburrow, but until then, there are two. One is the Infamous Cruelclaw:
And the other is Brightblade Stoat:
But since the cards were announced, there was an issue, and not the one where people hoping for an all-weaselfolk deck had their dreams crushed. It was what to do about the prior weasel cards.
The bigger issue comes with Bronze Sable. This card:
As soon as the weasels came out, many wondered just what would happen with the creature type. In fact, one player asked Rosewater this:
"Hi Mark! Just saw the spoiler for The Infamous Cruelclaw. Its an awesome card! I was wondering since the creature type Weasel is now a thing would the Bronze Sabel be errated to Weasel instead of Sabel? Thanks again!!!"
Being errated, and thus changed, would make the most sense, as other previously seldom used creature types were reformed in the past. But Rosewater's response was...not quite confirmatory.
"I did check and yes, sables are Weasels. I don’t know if any errata is planned."
Weasels are by no means the first to have this happen, and will not be the last. But with the "Death Race" set possibly featuring Bloomburrow early next year and then the return to Bloomburrow likely to have them in a larger capacity, the question of being errata'd will need to be fixed and fixed soon. This won't be like the Grand Creature Type Update of 2007 or the smaller Phyrexian change a few years back. But, in terms of continuity and not having potential changes pile up, they'll need to weasel themselves out of this one.
