Hasbro, parent company of Magic: The Gathering developer and publisher, Wizards of the Coast, is laying off 3% of its overall workforce.
The layoff affects roughly 150 of the company's 4,985 global employees (with math accurate to the company's 2024 annual report).
Concerns from manufacturers and retailers alike have been swirling around the various tariffs that have been enacted by President Donald Trump over the past couple of months. Hasbro reportedly sources approximately half of their toys and games sold in the U.S.A. from China, though the company stated in their 2025 Q1 financial report that the President's tariffs had "no material impact" on first quarter results.
That stated, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said during an April 2025 earnings report that "Ultimately, tariffs translate into higher consumer prices, potential job losses as we adjust to absorb increased costs and reduced profits for our shareholders."
This is not the first time in recent years that Hasbro has enacted job cuts. In December 2023, the company announced plans to lay off 900 jobs worldwide.
Both Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast have been contacted by Magic Untapped for comment.
