UltraPRO - What's new, what's next, and what's in the works for Magic: The Gathering

UltraPRO's Dekan Wheeler joins Magic Untapped during MagicCon Chicago to show off the company's new, upcoming, and prototype accessories for Magic: The Gathering

Topping that list is the company's new 30th Anniversary MTG Apex card sleeves, which only just recently came out and are now available at retailers both big and small.

"It's our matte-backed textured art sleeve with a gloss front that we've been working on for the last two years to get the shuffle right," says Wheeler.

The Apex sleeves come in packs of 105, which is enough to sleeve an entire EDH deck along with a few extras for token cards and the like.

"We don't want to assume that you're gonna stop at 100," Wheeler comments.

INTERVIEW: WHAT'S COMING UP FOR MAGIC: THE GATHERING FROM ULTRAPRO

Coming soon are Apex sleeves in the company's Mana 8 line, as well as other new products to go along with them.

"We have a nine pocket binder, a 12 pocket leatherette binder, the Apex sleeves, our alcove heavy box, our 100-plus deck box, and our stitched edge mats," lists Wheeler.

Also shown was a large storage box the company is calling the Drop Ship and a double-sized deck storage box called the Duo, both of which are scheduled to release near the end of the year.

UltraPro also has a number of products on the horizon that are themed around just-released and upcoming Magic releases such as Universes Beyond: FalloutModern Horizons III, and Outlaws of Thunder Junction.  This includes not just sleeves and playmats, but also new premium leatherette deck boxes and card binders.

The deck box shown during MagicCon Chicago boasted Thunder Junction theming complete with a sunset red leatherette outside and shiny gold accents.

UltraPro also showed off a couple of prototypes, including a foldable card storage solution and a deck box designed specifically for Commander players that breaks apart with special spaces for a player's graveyard, command zone, and a shoe for players to place their decks and easily draw from.

"I'm looking to see what we can do for [our] Commander series as we continue to gather data from all our fan votes," says Wheeler.  "The goal here is to have something that, in the next year or so, we can expand that Commander series to have a lot more presence."
